It's only extended if you are very short.  They feel smaller to me.

The 'bowling alley' balconies on the Spirit Class ships are 2 ft deeper than regular balconies.

The long balconies on deck 5 are not as deep as the true 'bowling alley' balconies on decks 6, 7 and 8.  🙂

I would say it is similar in total size, maybe a bit bigger. The room is set up so a wheel chair can maneuver easier and the door to the room is larger. It isn't cramped that is for sure. According to Carnival documents the square footage is the same.
