Go Cards Posted February 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2006  I am taking my first cruise in March on the Costa Magica. Initially when asked by my travel agent about insurance, I declined. I recently had a friend that became very ill on their cruise and didn't have the insurance and incurred a lot of expenses to get home. Does anyone have any experience with the Costa insurance? Do you usually opt for it? Anyone needed it? I am a college student trying to go for as cheap as possible, but didn't know if it is "rolling the dice" in the cruise world to not purchase this?? kitty9 Posted February 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2006 Never purchase the insurance directly from the cruise line as they don't cover nearly as much as a third party company. Go to a website called http://www.insuremytrip.com and you can compare various companies and their prices.
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2006 We never buy the cruise line's insurance. Third party is the way to go. We have used Access America for years - had to make a claim once. There are a lot of good companies out there that sell insurance.
Jane110 Posted February 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2006 I agree with the others.... ALWAYS buy insurance for a cruise! (I never buy it for any other kind of vacation) DON'T buy the ship's insurance. You'll get less coverage and will probably pay more. Go to www.insuremytrip.com to see which one is best for your needs. We've always used AccessAmerica, though since we've never had to make a claim (thank goodness), I honestly can't say how good they are.
