formal wear?

Hello!

Since I've never sailed Celebrity before I'm not sure what is appropriate for formal dinners. We've always sailed Carnival and have always been disappointed, people show up in just about anything, if you are going to come to dinner in the formal dining room on formal night then dress the part people! (okay, that is another post - - anyways,) all the dresses I have are what I consider to be "formal" although only one of them are long. Must one have a long dress to be appropriate?? My dresses are mostly t-length (mid-calf). I just wasn't sure about this and I sure don't want to offend anyone or feel out of place. The mid-calf dresses are still very nice, one of them even has sequins and beading at the top, they just don't go all the way to the floor.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What you described your dress as mid-calf is perfect for formal wear. There is a tremendous amount of discussion on the is board about formal wear. Maybe try a search. Again your dress for formal is fine.

You will be fine. I prefer the long dresses but it's because they make me feel 'more' dressed up. The tea length dresses are very appropriate.

(I have even seen 'gowns' lately. I was at the Captain's Table on MSC with a lady who had on a true ball gown. Yards of taffeta, etc. Wow! That was something (she was about 75)!) Can you do a double ))? Oh well, I did it!

Lots of the young girls wear sequined minis, so no worry! You'll look beautiful.

The longer the cruise, the more formal it is as the older crowd will dress up more. We just got back from a 14 days Hawaii and I saw a large number of men in tuxes. I was so glad that mine had finally given in and ordered one. He looked so handsome in it!

I have seen everything on formal night from ballgowns to Sunday-go-to-meeting dresses. To me, anything w/sequins is formal. I often wear black palazzo pants w/a sequined top and I think I look as good as anyone else.

If you are a gift to men, then why not wrap that gift in a classy outfit!!!

Formal attire varies from cocktail to gown, all fit just fine!

Me, nothing in life compares as walking arm in arm with my wife when she is dressed to the nines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone!

I just wasn't sure what was appropriate. I'd rather ask a stupid question than end up looking stupid LOL. My dresses are definately more dressy than the norm that you see when sailing with Carnival. I'm sure they will be fine. I do have a couple of long ones but they are either too hard to pack (they wrinkle way too easily) or they aren't as comfortable. LOL Plus I'm really short (5'2") so sometimes if I wear a long dress to the floor I disappear. Showing that small bit of leg sometimes makes all the difference (especially when you put a nice pair of shoes on the end of that leg! LOL)

Thanks again for all the advice. I'm sure I'll be chiming in later with more questions.
