Isle of Wight - hotel?

Recommended Posts

Do you know where on the island you want to lodge?

Staying in one place?

Touring by car?

Or relying on buses?

There are very few chain hotels on the island, it's mainly a mix of owner-operated hotels, B&Bs and self-catering, so best to look through the descriptions on a comprehensive website like booking.com

But you know the Premier Inn chain, and it has three hotels on the island, of which the one in Newport would be ideal if you're relying on buses (all of the island's bus routes radiate from Newport, and the Premier Inn in Fairlee Road is on the bank of the River Medina and a pleasant  15 minute riverside walk from the bus station.) Since Newport is in the centre of the island and that Premier Inn has a large free carpark, it would also be convenient for exploring the island by car. Alternatively the Premier Inn on the seafront esplanade at Sandown would have a holiday atmosphere.

Or the many many small hotels, B&Bs etc on the island.

Thanks for the information.

Thinking on going after our cruise June 11, 2022.  Trying to decide to stay in Southampton and travel by ferry for the day or stay overnight some place with our cruise luggage and then ferry back and take National Express to London.  Would be using the bus.

Interested in the stream train tour.  Can you do the bus around  and train in day or better in two days?

Then I suggest overniting in Ryde - either Premier Inn or somewhere as close / closer to the bus station. You should be able to fit the steam railway into a half-day (bus route 9 Ryde to Wootton steam railway), leaving the rest of that day for something else. But you really need another full day on the island.

The island's bus operator is Southern Vectis, they have a selection of ticket options - probably ideal would be a 24 hr or 48 hr Rover + Breezer ticket
