Well on our last cruise on the Escape we bid and we didn't even get a notice whether our bids were accepted or not in fact we had to go to the guest service desk to ask if we were upgraded they told us NO so we kept our Balcony. We, later found out that our cruise was not full ( we noticed) and that there was a lot of rooms available in the Haven, needless to say we were disappointed, we also found out they also had spa balconies available and we bid for that too. We wondered why they didn't accept our bids and why guest services didn't allow us to move up and pay the difference, we found that bizarre.

Last but not least, we got Covid, we had some symptoms on board very very mild  by the end of the cruise but when we got home we tested positive, we are both doing well.

Good grief.  I guess you should have bid more?

We have 4 different Haven bids in on the Prima leaving tomorrow. We currently have a forward facing family villa with large balcony. We just received an email that our bids are under "consideration" and they make you sweat it out right up to sail away:

Upgrades may be awarded at any time up until 0 hours prior to the sailing departure.

I got an offer to upgrade for a cruise out of Miami next month even though all rooms above inside are sold out.  I asked my personal cruise consultant about this and she said they hold back about 3 rooms in each category for bidding.  That doesn't make sense to me - why would they sell a few at a discount for upgrades when they could sell them at full price?  I do understand that sometimes people have to cancel at the last moment so that part makes sense.

Has anybody ever gotten an upgrade when all the rooms are already sold out?  Seems like a long shot to me.

Possibility 1: The rooms may not be available … yet. In a world with airline disruption, illness, emergencies, rooms inevitably open up due to cancellations. In the even this happens, why not have some upgrades waiting to get a few more hundred dollars here and there.

Possibility 2: There could be rooms available. Based on staffing, all rooms might not be available for purchase, similar to walking into a restaurant and seeing empty tables but not being seated in them. The section is closed to the public because staffing can’t adequately accommodate. If they get more staffing before then, or they can simply shift from one category to another, it’s a few more hundred here and there.

Possibility 3: NCL uses a 3rd party to administer the upgrade program. NCL may be contractually obligated to set aside a certain number of rooms for this service.

They also use your bids for the algorithms for future cruises all that data is continuously compiled to maximize profit for the bidding program.

Trying to book a casino certificate cruise to alaska on the bliss and am currently at an oceanview room. CAS told me balcony upgrade would be $240. Is that a good deal or should I just try my luck bidding later? I'm not really sure how much people bid for a balcony in comparison! Thanks in advance.

I have to call BS on that.

They have no way of knowing any of that info.

Someone was just trying to get you off the phone.

They want to sell Haven at ticket price, not discount pricing.

Well, when they open up, I will call in again today.. And try to book again. I did not explain in full detail my last comment about what they actually told me. I just left the points to keep the posting small. So a third party handles the bidding process. They told me, that this third party has a contract that requires a certain amount of rooms left open so that atleast certain amount of people are upgraded. Which thinking as a business owner myself. I would not go into a contract with the ability to not make any profit at all if the ship was to sell out, after taking bids and working for 2 or 3 months handing it. So this is my first time on board the NCL ships. We are on a cruise offer through the casino I go to, Which is the exact name of the ship im on.. (Kudos if you can figure that one). Im in a club balcony, total cost was 1800, I put bids on all upgrades into the haven except 2 bed and owners. But declined the club balcony spa also. As it would be cheaper to just buy the spa pass. Its the same room. Now it would make sense to upgrade me to the haven, if I am selected that way they can upgrade someone into my suite i currently have in the MA class. I was willing to pay the asking price. Which IS why I called in, I wanted to make this trip special for myself and my wife as it is our 10 yr anniversary. So I bid the max on all upgrades besides the owners suite and the 2 bedroom. I hope I find out I am upgraded to the haven. But Id rather just pay full price now and know now.

Good luck, a 2 minute check of inventory will find that currently the sailing is sold out, otherwise casino at sea would be more than happy for you to pay the difference and upgrade to the haven.  I would keep checking since people do cancel for various reasons and if one opens call casino at sea immediately and pay the price to upgrade.  Happy sailing.

As a reminder when bidding.....

Don't forget to go back and do a mock booking on the cabin you are bidding on. On some cruises (ours) the price of a Haven cabin with the price drop was the same as my middle of the road bid

Agreed, this happened to us this past August for our October cruise. We were able to upgrade directly for roughly our "fair" bid, and the cabin category we wanted sold out shortly thereafter, followed by the entire Haven shortly after that. I would be surprised if anyone bid into the Haven on our sailing. (Nobody on the cruise critic sailing page or the page on the other site reported it.)

Some people have reported being upgraded after embarkation, after cabins were ready. They got a knock on their cabin door and were escorted up to the Haven. So yes, it could be up to 0 hours before actual departure.

Hopefully you got an upgrade, but if not, I'm sure you're having a great cruise! I would love to sail the Prima.

Bliss upgrade bid from Club Balcony to Haven Family Suite accepted yesterday for sailing January 27.

I must say I was very surprised that the bid was accepted so early. I believe many bids were accepted yesterday because when I looked at inventory in the morning there was at least 17 Haven cabins available, now I only see a handful.
One thought I have is that NCL’s may be boasting cash flow prior to end of year shareholders report.

Clearly there will be no offer acceptance for holiday sailings. ALL rooms are sold out. And and above jan27 has already got their notifications. Ahwell I guess everyone is out for Christmas 🎄

Guess that depends on the cruise and cabin choice.  I just got my upgrade, OV to balcony, minimum bid. Leaving next week, Christmas and New Years cruise. But everything above balcony has been showing sold out for awhile.

An odd thing happened and I was wondering if someone could clue me in. I've been tracking Haven availability on our cruise for awhile. Last I checked there were 32 left. Today? --there are 42. I counted twice to be sure. We are well past final payment date so why would there suddenly be 10 more cabins available? I also was sure to include only 2 adults to be sure I was getting all possible Haven options available and I swear it was 32 last week and now it's 42. For reference we leave in 73 days.

Big volume TAs block out blocks of rooms and around now, unsold rooms are turned back.

I just came back from  a 14 day on the Star I had a balcony and for 300 bucks total I was able to upgrade to a club suite.  I think it was a decent deal our bathroom looked lie it was just redone it was  pretty much spotless and having the tub provided lots of room in the shower.  We went petty far south crossing the equator and having 2 thermostats and 2 units in the ceiling was nice.

The ship was not full but I rally did not hear of many people getting upgrades 1400 out of 2400 capacity.

Yup! There are 42 Haven cabins left on my cruise at 72 days out. The cost for 2A/1C to upgrade to Haven is currently 2500 over what we actually paid for a balcony. ---but the upgrade system is allowing me to bid up to 4000....1500 OVER the actual cost for me to just upgrade myself.
