Hi, all!  Has anyone used OCB to purchase gift cards while onboard?

Yes. I have done this before. You purchase at cherry on top and you can use it for any carnival related purchase instead of being stuck to onboard purchases.

J Heald has said this practice has been stopped. So many people have OBC now Carnival is trying to stop the bleeding. People were using the cards as deposits on future cruises. This may come back after people run through their covid related OBC according to some here.

Oops.... that was a typo.

That’s exactly what I was hoping to do... purchase gift cards to pay on my January cruise.  Oh well...

Thanks for the info!

Considering they lose more when you launder through the casino and that practice has not been stopped, I tend to believe John is just saying what he was told to say. At least this way carnival still has the money.

When is your cruise? I don't cruise cruise again until 10/28 but I will be happy to see if it is possible and report back on this thread.

Yes, the next cruise is mid-October.  I had hoped to find a way to convert some of the OBC to something usable on the January cruise, which is a longer cruise.  Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, I guess.

J Heald also said the days of spinning a slot a few times and cashing out have ended. People here have reported mixed results cashing out in the casino recently.

I wonder how they would functionally restrict this.

They have onboard computers with algorithms running constantly that track your play which include length of play, time at a table, time at slots. etc. They know quite a bit and two spins of a slot will not return you $300 or $600 or more of OBC is what we have been told. I'll find out next month.

This is accurate. I am a frequent gambler and still had my card locked when I cashed out. The machine I chose was malfunctioning so I just intended to move machines. This was before covid and it locked me out even back then.

See above from @sanmarcosman.  I know from experience they can systematically block you from charging more to your S&S if you charge your S&S on the slots, don't play "enough", and then cash out to your player bank.  I wasn't trying to launder money but decided to move slots "too soon" after charging a large amount to my S&S.

@jam19872016 Are you saying they didn't just block you from charging more to your S&S but the machine wouldn't cash out to your player bank?

It went back to my player bank. But when I tried to access it on the next machine, my card was locked. I had to go see the cashier and explain what happened and they unlocked it for me. At no point did I try to cash it out or I doubt they would have been so keen to unlock the card.

You are misunderstanding. There is not a casino in the world that does not make you play free play (OBC) through before cashing it out.

What  I am saying is how are they going to stop any one from going to a machine charging $100 or whatever to their S&S, spiking it twice and then Cashing out to take it to the tables to avoid the fees?

All the scenarios above were not talking about cashing out, just moving to another machine.

The conversation is mixed. This topic started being about using OBC to purchase gift cards in the Cherry on Top Store!  And yes, many on these threads recall the simpler days when they could move their sail and sign OBC to a casino account, spin a slot reel once and take their ticket to the casino cashier for a cash payout and leave the casino never to return.

the conversation wasn't mixed is was convoluted, in tis there question pertaining to the casino we asked about table game structure, but the same answer you have given in multiple threads was talking about slot machines. no one was asking about slot machine. pre covid, as seemingly now you have to go about using OBC 2 different ways depending on if you are slot/VP player of a table games player. I was simply untangling the two ways to operate.
