JAYARE Posted February 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Howdy folx, I'm trying to find out if the Oosterdam has an ATM on board. If not, is there an exchange service provided for buying Mexican pesos? Anyone have first-hand experience using the ATM in a port of call (Mexican Riviera)? Thanks, -JR
Bill S Posted February 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2006 JR-sorry, no ATM on the Osterdam or HAL ships. :( But, you can get currency exchanged at the Front Desk, but by using an ATM in port, you will likely get a better rate. We have not needed an ATM in Mexico on our two visits there so I can't help you with that question. Sorry. Hope you have a great cruise on the Oosterdam, a very nice ship! We sailed on her last year. Sheffie Posted February 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2006 We have not cruised the Mexican Riviera, but have cruised to Mexico on the Caribbean side, and we have never needed to exchange our money for pesos. The locals have been VERY glad to get our US dollars! We always are sure to take lots of small bills, since there are times we get change in local currency. Have a great cruise! Krazy Kruizers Posted February 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2006 No ATM on any HAL ships. We have cruised many times in the Sea of Cortez and Mexican Riviera and never worried about exchanging money. They take credit cards - just have them write on your slip both the American and peso amounts so that you can keep track of everything. We always take lots of ones and fives with us incase we want to buy some small little item - that way you want get back a lot of pesos, etc.
kitty9 Posted February 19, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2006 You do NOT need to change to pesos. In fact, it's better not to change to pesos because the peso is virtually worthless. Everyone in Mexico prefers to take US money, as it's worth more to them than their own currency. Take small denomination US bills for everything and use credit cards for larger purchases.
