Could you elaborate on the need for a ESTA please Graham. It's 13 years since I last visited the US and 16 years since I sailed out of a US port and I can't remember exactly what I did then. My late wife used to organise all that sort of stuff.

Sorry I only just noticed your question.

Previously you would fill a white and green card in on the plane and hand them to Homeland security at the US immigration.

Now you have to go online to get an Esta through US Homeland Security which lasts 2 years and costs $14 each and you have to get this at least 3 days before travel otherwise you will not be allowed into the US.

Several companies advertise this service at a higher price but do it through the official site.

I always print ours and keep them with our travel documents.

If you visit the US more than once during the 2 year lifespan of the Esta you can go through a quicker line which not everyone realises.

Last time we went through the US citizens line at San Francisco airport.

Graham.
