No change or your lose the upgrade and the money. It's part of their terms and conditions:

8. If you make a change to your itinerary after your Bid has been accepted, your Bid will be cancelled, will not be transferred to your new itinerary and the upgrade amount paid is non-refundable.

Just a thought - what if you had them book the cheapest inside cabin and then join you in your villa?

10. If I have two reservations can I bid only once and if accepted, cancel the second reservation and move the guests into the upgraded cabin?
No, if you have two cabins you will need to submit two separate bids and they will be considered independently. NCL cannot guarantee that both reservations will be upgraded. In the case that one of the reservations gets upgraded, you cannot move the other guests into the upgraded cabin. All reservations cancelled within the penalty period will be subject to cancellation fees.

if you mean join as in "hang out in the GV" while their actual stateroom is empty, that's fine but the other suite amenities would not go to the freeloaders.

We've done this with the kids and a grand (3 total back then).  The two of us had a DOS, and we got an OV for them.  They spent most of the time on sea days with us anyway.  We decided that an OV didn't cost that much more than an inside, so why not let them see, etc.  In fact, they had some adorable photos of the toddler sitting on that very large "windowsill" (this wasn't a porthole), and apparently that became his "perch" when in their cabin. But they were mostly there for sleeping or his naps or... during *our* naps 🙂

It worked very well.

That may well work for the Garden Villa, but not really good for a regular room or a two bedroom in the Haven. They won't be able to use the Haven amenities and they'll be stuck sitting in the room.

Sure they can sneak in every once in a while, but hanging out for an extended period of time is probably not going to fly.

That's correct.  So IF a goal is to get them access to the Haven common areas, that's not going to work well.

However, in our case (and perhaps for OP?), our goal was to "be together", and it didn't matter "where".

We especially wanted it to be where the toddler couldn't "escape", so we could all relax a bit more.  We had an extra PackNPlay put in our bedroom in addition to the one in their cabin.

We were able to spend lots of time together, and we had some meals served in our suite for all of us, and some extra desserts a few evenings, etc.

We arranged for them to get keycards to our suite as well.  (This was no problem; the cards only opened the suite door.  We could have arranged charge privileges, but didn't, as we were paying for their cabin anyway.)

It worked very well for us.  With the little guy, they were mostly running around the ship anyway.  He couldn't go in any pool yet (still in diapers), so Haven facilities wouldn't have been as great as with all adults.
