luvocean9 Posted February 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2006 My husband and I took a Caribbean cruise RT San Juan that left July 1, 1989. I *think* it was NCL, but am not sure. I can't find any pictures; maybe we have some somewhere. Anyway, I remember that this line named their ships ending in "ward". There was the Sunward, Windward, Skyward, etc. Does anybody know what cruise line these ships were a part of?
electricron Posted February 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Probably NCL.
Druke I Posted February 19, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2006 You might want to check Cruise Critic's "what ever happened to ..." forum. The host, Doug, is very knowledgeable about ships, companies, and their histories.
newmexicoNita Posted February 19, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2006 It was and is NCL. The Skyward is gone now: the Windward is the Wind, the Sunward has also been retired or sailing somewhere else. The POA was the Sky before it went to Hawaii but not the same Sky as the Skyward. Hope this helps a little. NMNita
luvocean9 Posted February 20, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted February 20, 2006 Yes!!! Thank you. Now if I can figure out a way to prove that I was on one of their ships, I can get some special pricing.

Here is a picture of her when we sailed her. She is now the Orient Queen. We saw her in Mykonos and got the second picture of her...

She is now the Orient Queen. We saw her in Mykonos and got the second picture of her... I bet that is it. Thanks for the pictures although I really don't remember the ship at all. What I remember is that it was a very port intensive cruise. I think we were in a different port every day and it wore us out! Now I like to book some at sea days for some relaxation. TexasDH Posted March 20, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2006 We honeymooned on the same ship! Here's a link that has some photos of it, along with info about current status: http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/NCLPCs1.html#anchor477199
imacruzinma Posted March 31, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2006 on the NCL Starward. It must have been good luck! I remember it was somewhat small compared to our more recent cruise experiences. There were no children on the ship at all, and I remember we enjoyed the entertainment more than probably any other cruise we've been on. I think the ports were St. Thomas, St. Maartin, Martinique, Antigua and Barbados (?)...phew makes me tired just thinking of all those stops! Somewhere around here I have a whole album with everything from our tickets to drink receipts...I should pull it out to compare (laugh at) pricing...I think a beer was $1.75. We honeymooned on the NCL Southward in 1986(Miami to Puerta Plata, San Juan, St. Thomas, and Naussa Last year, we sailed on the Norwegian Dream. Our TA faxed NCL a picture of us being greeted by the Captain at the Welcome Aboard dinner for the Southward. NCL accepted that as proof and enrolled us in their past passengers club. twinds Posted April 7, 2006 #12 Share Posted April 7, 2006 luvocean9 I haven't been around this part of cruise ctitic for quite some time. I hope the following information is helpful to you. We honeymooned on the Skyward November 6 - 16, 1988. It was a 10 nighter from Miami to San Juan. I have in my hands a NCL cruise brochure valid from July 1989 - December 1990. It lists the July 1 - 8 itinerary as follows: Saturday - Depart San Juan at 10:00pm Sunday - At Sea Monday - Aruba - 8:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday - Curacao - 8:00am - 5:00pm Wednesday - At Sea Thursday - St. Thomas - 8:00am - 6:00pm Friday - St. Croix - 8:00am - 5:00pm Saturday - Arrive San Juan at 7:00am Ship from top to bottom.......... Compass Deck - Tropicana Bar Sun Deck - Sauna & Sports Boat Deck - Lido Cafe & Pool Rainbow Deck - Starlight Dining Room, Pot o' Gold Lounge, Casino, Viking Bar, & Paradise Lounge Atlantic Deck- Information Desk, Purser, Shops, Beauty Salon, & Cabins Biscayne Deck - Upper Theatre & Cabins Caribbean Deck - Lower Theatre, Cabins, & tender launch Last known whereabouts was someplace around Singapore using the name m/v leisureworld. It's last known use, supposedly was a floating casino/brothel. Quite sad, just good memories.............
luvocean9 Posted April 8, 2006 Author #13 Share Posted April 8, 2006 twinds - That was a great itinerary! Definitely not the same cruise. I remember going to St Thomas, St Lucia, St Maarten, Guadaloupe, and a couple more leaving San Juan. Everyday a different port. It wore us out. When I cruise now, I try to have at least 2 sea days to enjoy the ship and relax. Thanks for posting the information.
