Car rental Miami Port

Hi All and thanks in advance...

Our cruise will be returning on a Sunday to the Port of Miami.  I would like to rent a car and spend a few days in Florida.  Are there are rental car places within the port or do I take a shuffle to the Miami airport.  Or a taxi to ???

There are no car rental offices at the Port Of Miami. If you decide to rent from either Hertz, Avis or Budget the three companies provide shuttle service from the Port Of Miami to there downtown Miami locations that are very close. If you rent from Alamo, National, Enterprise, Dollar or Thrifty they provide shuttle service from the Port to the Miami Car Rental Center which is directly across from Miami International Airport.The Rental Car Center is a short twenty minute ride from the Port Of Miami. In most cases the shuttle drivers will ask to see your rental car reservation before they allow you to board the shuttle. Alamo, National and Enterprise are owned by the same company and share there shuttles. Dollar and Thrifty share there service. One last thing, if you decide to rent from one of the downtown Miami locations,  before Covid, especially on turnaround days the locations were always very busy. After one poor incident many years ago I stopped renting from Hertz and now only take the shuttle over to the Miami Car Rental Center.

We are returning our Avis rental to the port of miami office which in reality is downtown. Free shuttle to port from there.

I spoke with Alamo this morning. They do not provide the shuttle from the airport to the port anymore. And their office that was downtown by the port is now closed. They are only at the airport.

I can confirm after waiting over an hour for a National shuttle that there isn’t one anymore. Apparently they have not returned the service since covid. The Avis/budget/Payless shuttle was running but I do not know to what locations.

The Avis, Budget and Payless shuttles only service their downtown Miami locations. They don’t provide service to the Miami International Airport Rental Car Center which is located directly across from Miami International Airport.

I believe HERTZ's downtown loaction is CLOSED on sundays!

Google maps shows an Avis location right in the Cruise Terminal.  Is that correct (I doubt it)?  If not there, then where is the downtown terminal?  I see severeal nearby.

 

We leave from E & return to J.  If I decide to drive my car to cruise, how would parking work with 2 different terminals involved?

Avis was located on 2nd Street in downtown -close to POM but not inside the port.
