The Caribbean's "Newest" Port

Feb 17 -There's about to be a "new" port opening in the Caribbean. Actually, cruise ships have been calling at Grand Turk for years, but not in wholesale numbers. There hasn't been a dock or deepwater port that could handle modern cruise ships, so all but a few have passed by the port. But over the last couple of years, Carnival Corp has invested millions of dollars in developing a new state-of-the-art facility with two berths where two post-Panamax ships, even as large as Queen Mary 2 can dock at the same time.

The new facility will open next Saturday (February 25) when the first Carnival Corp ship (Holland America's Noordam) docks at the new pier, and opens the quiet little island with the pristine waters to thousands of new visitors.
