luvnorway Posted February 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2006 Have been reading posts about the air conditioning problems on Wind Surf. We have booked 3 cruises on her embarking Apr 30 and would appreciate it if recent cruisers who experienced hot cabins could indicate the specific cabin numbers they were in when they had this problem. Thanks in advance.
schmidlapp Posted February 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2006 well, its been a month now since we got back from our windsurf trip, i can't say for sure if the ship is still hot, but when we were on board, the "hot" areas were the forward cabins on the ship, and most public areas especially when there were a number of "bodies" in the area... hopefully windstar is making this a priority, if not they will loose a lot of loyal customers... when they are "on", they are great, they were not "on" when we were aboard, except for the service staff, they were great... I_need_a_break! Posted February 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2006 I just returned from the Wind Surf Feb 19 Barbados cruise - my first on Windstar and definitely not my last! :) We were in cabin 143 (according to the crew this means "I love you"!). Our a/c worked just fine - in fact we had to turn the thermostat up and put an extra blanket on the bed because I got cold at night!
lovecruisingtoo Posted February 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Glad to hear you had a good time. Since it sounds like you didn't hear of anyone complaining about the A/C, the problem must have been solved. Hope this will put the issue to rest. poodlemom Posted March 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2006 I'll be on April 9 and am so glad for your report. Last year we were on the same ship, same trip and have never had a better time. The weather was perfect. Good winds and no rain. We signed up for 2 crossings for this year before we ever disembarked.
parislady40 Posted March 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Poodlemom, I will be on the April 9th transatlantic as well. Have done several cruises, and this is the first time I am doing a transatlantic. I have no idea what to expect. You said the weather was good last year. How were the seas? Does the temperature drop quite fast after leaving? Thanks for any help or suggestions.I leave next week for a quick surprise cruise with hubby for his birthday, so I have a quick turnaround. Riverroad Posted March 1, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Parislady40, Been reading your replies & your list of cruises. Were we on the same Venice to Rome(10 days) cruise last Aug. on the Windsurf? I met this very fun lady from Bermuda on the cruise & we were always talking about how we could stay on & not have to go home. Is that you? parislady40 Posted March 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Riverroad, That would have been yours truly. I just cannot seem to stay off the ship. Wish they had timeshare on board. I would even work in the giftshop. Do you remember hubby. He was the laid back guy. We were the only ones from Bermuda. Did we not have a true blast. So glad you touched base. Packing for his surprise trip as I type!!!! Ruth
rogfam Posted March 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 2, 2006 We will be on the Windsurf this August, and after reading about the AC problems I sent an email inquiry to Windstar corporate office. Here is their reply: Thank you for the e-mail regarding your upcoming msy Wind Surf cruise on August 13, 2006. We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. This is in response to your inquiry regarding the service onboard Windstar Cruises, specifically in regard to the maintenance of our air-conditioning system onboard. Naturally, we strive to provide the best possible vacation experience for all of our guests. However, because our ships are continuously sailing, there will, on occasion, be situations that arise which may require maintenance or repairs while guests are on board. Please be assured that when these occurrences unfortunately develop, our Engineering Department does their utmost to minimize the impact of these situations on our valued guests. It is true that we had a problem with this air-conditioning system earlier in December of 2005, but we can assure you that this has been fixed. Our corporate management has recently been onboard to view the current circumstances and have gladly been able to report that the air-conditioning is operating within our standards. While our entire air system will undergo a renovation during the Wind Surf’s scheduled dry dock in November, we have nothing to lead us to believe that any additional major problems will arise. Thank you again for taking the time to inquire with us. We assure you that we are truly concerned for our guests’ enjoyment onboard and have therefore responded as such. We sincerely look forward to serving you onboard the msy Wind Surf in August. Until then, we send our kind regards.

It is refreshing to know that corporate management takes manners like this seriously. Please let us know all about your cruise.
schmidlapp Posted March 2, 2006 #11 Share Posted March 2, 2006 i'm also glad they responded to you, i can say that in mid january they still had problems that we firsthand expeirenced... i truly hope things are really fixed, although when they did admit that the whole system is being re-done in november, it indicates to me that problems may still occur. we really do like the winstar concept and the service staff, and i'm sure in the future we will give them another try but quite frankly i don't think we will have such high expectations next time around... management needs to be aware that when they get peoples expectations up they must deliver. my unofficial ratings on a scale of 1 -10 are as follows..... service staff 10+ food 3 casino staff 9 cruise director & staff 9 officers 7 ship's overall condition 3 the two 3's are the areas that if they can fix them will bring the experience to a level that should make it as advertised... once again i hope someone from windstar reads this, they can truly do better, they have in the past and we would like to experince it as we did on our first windstar cruise in 2003. Riverroad Posted March 2, 2006 #12 Share Posted March 2, 2006 Ruth, I'm so envious of your up-coming Windstar cruise schedule. Yes, I remember your husband & he's so lucky to have you planning a surprise cruise. I'm trying to talk mine into the Sept. 17 Lisbon to Barcelona but no luck so far. Our devoted Windstar cruiser friends are going so maybe you'll meet them. Can't wait to hear about your transatlantic because that's something my DH would do. We actually met on a New Years cruise-2005.Now we are firm friends. I cannot wait for the March 12th cruise. All is just about done. I will keep you posted regarding the transatlantic. poodlemom Posted March 3, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Seas were nice for me, but I like them to be a bit up so I'm at sea and not home. The weather change was gradual. Many people brought kites along to fly off the back deck. One person wanted the captain to slow down the ship so he could troll for fish. Captain said no. Apparently you must sail into Lisbon with the right tide. You have to go at a certain time to get under a bridge. Several years ago he said the winds were against her and they docked in Lisbon a day late. A real problem since many missed their flights. He did say that last year was the best crossing of the 9 or so times he had taken her across.

parislady40 Posted March 3, 2006 #16 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Poodlemom, thanks for the info especially regarding Lisbon. We cruised Barcelona to Lisbon, and because of the tide and bridge, we had to tender with our bags to the cruise terminal. Several people missed their flights as well. But I never thought of the possibility of arriving a day later, as this would affect hotel reservations as well. I know that was probably a one off time. The kites are a different idea, one that I would never have thought of. Thanks.
