La Paz

La Paz with Princess:   tours at dock?  bus free to town/cost?  Beaches close?   Deciding if I should book with ship or try to do something on my own.  First choice is to go to a beach and relax for the day.  Thank you for your help.

The most scenic beach in the area is Balandra but the services are somewhat limited.  The best for services would be El Tecolote.  Fortunately they are in the same direction from the port in the direction away from town.

I have never been to La Paz on a cruise and have always had a car while in the area.  That said, it would be very likely that taxis are available from the port and you can most likely arrange for a return pick up.  I also think the bus runs out to the beach as well, but I am not sure of the frequency of service.

The DIY decision is really based on your comfort level in taking a cab out to the beach and returning.  I am pretty sure taxis will be available for your return, but I wouldn't wait until the last minute to get in a cab to return to the ship.  My gut says that taxis will be more plentiful at El Tecolote just based on the number of restaurants, etc.

I am sure that the cruise line will have shuttles into La Paz for a charge.  Note that the center of town really doesn't have any beaches.  I wouldn't be surprised if the cruise line didn't also have a beach bus tour that is really nothing more than transportation to the beach.

As SelectSys says, Balandra beach is fabulous and a great place to spend a few hours.  But I can't speak to bus or transportation there, as I had a car for the land vacation.

Went to El Tecolote beach. Taxi at port.  Rented chairs and purchased drinks.  Food was available as well.    Long line to get into Balandra Beach.   Took Princess bus to town in morning, walked around, went to cabin and still had enough time for beach.

Taxi cost was $20.00 each way.

I had a friend who recently experienced the same thing in terms of the COVID restrictions limiting entry at Balandra.  Glad your visit worked out well.
