Cruise Next Certificate Extensions

Like many others, I have CruiseNext certificates expiring in the next four months.  Any updates on whether they will be extended?  The data points in this thread seem contradictory so I don't think a blanket extension has occurred yet.  Given NCL has reinstated the Peace-of-Mind policy, I'm hoping they also extend the CruiseNext expiry dates.  No way I'm planning a cruise in the next few months unless the COVID situation improves dramatically.

Any news or thoughts?

It would seem unusual for NCL to extend a Cruise Next Deposit.  Purchasers of CNDs have had four years to use them.  Extending the expiration date on Future Cruise Credits, however, would seem logical.  Most of those were issued for cruises cancelled by Covid and had an original validity of just a year.  With NCL sidelined for some 18 months, and still not sailing with all 17 ships, an extension of FCC would seem to be in order.

I had 2 Cruise Next Certificates that were expiring today, decided to book a cruise as far out as possible, so, December 2022. I called the Casino, they are closed for the holidays, I called my cruise planner at NCL, she is off for the holidays, I called the regular NCL line, spoke to an agent, she said that the casino is open, transferred me to them, I waited on the phone for 45 minutes, no answer, so I decided to call the regular line again, spoke to another agent, who was a complete a$$. He said you chose to wait until the last day, which I did, we are in the middle of a pandemic, and I needed to decide what I wanted to do, he said it was too complicated to deal with and hung up, I called back but they are closed now for the holidays, so I emailed my cruise planner. I can't book online because the certificates are completely gone from my account, but the last agent said he could clearly see them on his screen he didn't know why I couldn't see them 😞

Did you try to call 877-742-9521?  It’s not direct to Miami but they answer calls for CAS.  If you call the Miami VIP number it says they are closed for the holiday for the past week.

No, I did not have that number, I looked on the NCL website, because I thought there used to be 2 numbers but the numbers were the same as I had. Thank you very much, and you are right, it has been closed all week.

@HuliHuli Hello!! I do love a good friendly debate (and hulihuli chicken from the food truck in Kihei)!  I appreciate the time you took to respond.  I suspect this thread might end up locked or gone, but before it is, allow me to reply.

I am not a statistician by trait, but I had a great one on staff to help me in these situations so I'm forced to fumble through on my own. The one thing she always said was that she could 'crunch the numbers until they confess".

1) When quoting University Business you left out some important information for context. Here is the entire quote:

"Many have reported significant compliance, with more than 90% of populations receiving doses.

Those stout percentages provide comfort for institution leaders, but are they all legitimate? "

The tenet of the article really does question how many students are truly vaccinated.  But, As you pointed out, this is self reported data. 90% of students say they are vaccinated, but we have no idea how many of those used a fake card to obtain said vaccinated status. It's possible (since we don't really know) that 90% of those who claim to be vaccinated really aren't. Therefore any data points from this study are flawed out of the gate.  Again my anecdotal evidence suggests that closer to 30% used a fake card.

2 and 3) The entire key findings from intelligent dot com are:

image.png.0e98aa59dd8c7a16a0f3e9f62c6c2652.png

Since I believe I have made the case that we really have no way of knowing how many students are truly vaccinated (ie, we don't know how many used a fake card), I believe the number of potential students who lied about a vax card in this study is likely much greater than 5.5%. Did I mention my anecdotal evidence suggests it's closer to 30%?

4) I absolutely agree that Margin of Error must be taken into account, but I do not believe we can make any firm conclusions about the margin of error in the study since it relies on kids admitting they lied.

5)  I wasn't trying to correlate the data between the two studies, just offering another PoV. As you stated, different studies, different methodology. But, I can say with absolute certainty that I personally know grown adults using fake cards so my experience falls in line with the Forbes study.

I could flood this discussion with continued data sources pointing to the black market of vaccine card distribution. The feds acknowledge the market exists. I would make the case that if there weren't ample fake cards in used, a black market for fraudulent cards would be unlikely.  While the number of fake cards is likely not equal to the number of actual vaccine cards in distribution,  I do believe the % of people using a fake vaccine card is much greater most people care to consider and very likely greater than the number you crunched :).

When it's all said and done, I suspect that I will not change your mind, nor will you change mine, but I have enjoyed what I hope is a friendly discussion about a very serious topic which wasn't even on my radar 3 years ago.

I'll buy the first beer in District.

Happy New Year

There's a big difference between Hawaii and NCL.  From the Hawaii DOH site:  "The vaccination record document must be uploaded to Safe Travels and printed out prior to departure and the traveler must have a hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawaiʻi. The State of Hawai‘i will also accept vaccine records that are digitally validated by Digital Health Pass Partners"

I just cruised a few weeks ago.  NCL doesn't require the vax card be uploaded in advance and the check at the pier is a cursory one.  You don't even need the original card; a photo of it is fine.

You're correct that states maintain databases, so do a lot of the larger pharmacies/health systems.  However, NCL is not a government entity.  They would have direct access to those databases.

I assure you, I'm not a conspiracy theorist.  It takes a simple Google search to find many sites where one could purchase fake cards and there are numerous stories of people who have been caught.  But if you think that's 100%, you're deluding yourself.

People who cruise with fake cards are setting themselves up for future prosecution.

Except we didn't have four years to use them as cruising was not available at all for about 18 months between 2020 and 2021.  Not NCL's fault but not my fault either.  All outstanding CNC's should be extended by at least 12 months.
