I think as passengers we have to be careful. As with the "Triple Lock" will it be reinstated ? Covid has wreaked havoc on many aspects of life. In my humble opinion I don't believe that every excuse used by Companies is due to Covid. What we must insist on is that things that were considered part of the enjoyment of a cruise are not lost or end up instead of being free having as with many, many things  requiring a charge. I appreciate that Companies such as Carnival have lost many millions during this pandemic but providing the World returns to something resembling normal there is no requirement for them to make up for it in one big hit.

Very true but the thing is the longer they take to repay the loans the more expensive it becomes

Just speaking from a personal point of view unlike many passengers that frequent P&O ships I have never had a high paid job, or for that matter owned my own Company or been left a decent wedge by a long lost Aunt. Therefore I have had to look for value and save hard for the cruises we have had. As for Dining, drinking and paying extra for certain activities onboard we have to justify the expense. On several occasions we have paid for the Ultimate Package which costs £399 and includes a Bottle of Champagne on arrival in your cabin, 1/2 bottle of Champagne and continental breakfast in bed, champagne flutes, formal framed photo, 2 x canapes in cabin, a massage or facial for myself and wife, 2 x Specialist Restaurant visits and dressing gown and slippers. Generally if we have  an Autumn or Spring cruise we get an inside cabin. Neither of us are big drinkers. Although a pint or a G&T goes down well prior to diner. Or a pint whilst watching a football game. Nonetheless we have done 16 cruises since 2002 and have enjoyed travelling to many parts of the World. Some of the things that you can do onboard now incur a charge such as a Galley Tour and if allowed a Tour of the Bridge. Now from what I have gleaned through this forum newer P&O ships are having venues for music and food where you pay a cover charge, this follows on from  The Retreat where you pay for a sunbed of a better quality, food and a few other extras. I would find it hard to justify all this additional expense. I just hope that I am not excluded from this form of travel by everything having a charge applied to it.
