Cabin advice - Regal

For our upcoming March 2022 "Grand Turk, 5 day", I booked our favorite cabin on the Regal - mid-ship extended balc on Emerald Deck.  Thanks to Covid quarantines I'm guessing, Princess took our cabin and "upgraded" us to a basic balc. cabin aft.  Argh!

Since we've used mostly FCC from cancelled cruises to pay for this cruise, we decided we could pay a little more for a category upgrade.  I'm trying to decide between an premium aft dlx balcony on Deck 9 or a basic mini-suite mid-aft.  Do I want the bigger, partially covered balcony or a larger room?  We've stayed in a MS before on other ships but have never done an aft cabin.  I've heard about the soot issue but I think I can live with that.  Price difference btwn the two is minimal ($40).  Would like to make decision today.  I do love a good balcony but there is an argument for having room in cabin to spread out.  Anyone have advice?

Caribbean cruises tend to make me think focus on the outdoor more i.e. balcony not the room space.

Great point!   I think we’re leaning that way.  We love watching the ocean!  Thanks

We had a back balcony cabin and it was not as great as we thought it would be.  Too many people looking down.  Me personally I’d take the mini suite with a balcony.

we also thought the soot wouldn’t be a problem but it was.

We were in dolphin 728 on the enchanted last month

impossible for anyone to look down on us relaxing unless hanging out at the very edge (when leaving port lots of people standing on railings of balconies)

The balcony was very nice with ottomans

Near back elevator to scoot to the gym (too many stairs from 9th to 16th floor)

BUT…

it is a really long walk to the center elevators (multiple times a day)

there was soot - we put a towel at the entrance to the door

we think it was noisier than mid ship

my Husband thought bouncier

next trip - on regal - our E410 has been changed to D407

if we had the choice - would do mini suite mid ship instead of the aft cabin
