Booking Excursions and Changes in Itineraries

I've noticed the 10 Day Itinerary for several Southern Caribbean cruises have changed recently but cruisers aren't notified until departure.  The St. Thomas VI and Grand Turk stops have been swapped out a few times.  I'm OK with that potential change and even not knowing ahead; anything south of Nassau is new to me 🙂

My question though is if I purchase an excursion for a port and we don't happen to be there on that scheduled day, does it automatically transfer?  For instance, our first stop is scheduled for Puerto Plata, but recent changes have it being the 5th of 5 ports.

I would guess the biggest obstacle to any of this is how many other ships are in port on the same day.
