emoorehead Posted February 17, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2022 How long does it typically take for Carnival to release the hold on the funds on my debit card after my account has been settled? I got off the Sunshine on Feb 5. I had my sail and sign money set aside in my Paypal account and rather than move it around I just used my PayPal debit card to secure my account. I got a notification around 9am the day we left that they had placed a $100 hold on my account. A few days after I got home, I got a notification that Carnival had finalized my payment for $87 (which jibes with what was on my folio when I debarked). I have been home for 12 days now and my PayPal account balance still reflects that $100 has been taken out. So I am just curious if it takes awhile to release the hold on the leftover funds or if I need to get in touch with Carnival and/or PayPal to figure out what is going on. I know it's only $13, but still..... TIA for any insight 😊
Colorado Cruzer Posted February 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2022 It can take up to to weeks depending on the bank. Maybe paypal takes longer, never heard of someone using that. If you have a paypal credit card, it's much easier to use and not have the holds.
Rare sparks1093 Posted February 17, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2022 This is always a tough one because it depends on both the merchant and the bank. I would expect at this point that Carnival has done their part and PayPal needs to do theirs. (They may not realize that the hold and final charge are related since they are differing amounts.) Cruiser_1977 Posted February 17, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 17, 2022 (edited) Legally I think it can last up to 31 days. Usually no more than 7-10 business days. Edited February 17, 2022 by JennyB1977
JT1962 Posted February 17, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 17, 2022 I believe PayPal leaves the hold on for 30 days. That was the experience I had in December when I made a purchase on a website that never finalized. The pending charge/hold dropped off of PayPal after 30 days. Jelly_Toast Posted February 17, 2022 #6 Share Posted February 17, 2022 PayPal takes forever to drop a hold. I tried to make a purchase at Christmas and there was an error on the website so I had to use a different form of payment but PayPal kept the hold for a month. That was about the time that I quit using PayPal.

Them holding onto your money for 31 days is legalized robbery.
emoorehead Posted February 17, 2022 Author #8 Share Posted February 17, 2022 Thank you all for the information. It's not like I am in need of the funds. They were set aside in that account for my cruise. I was just curious how long it was going to take.
vamartha Posted February 18, 2022 #9 Share Posted February 18, 2022 It is usually 7-10 days, but I have never used a Paypal debit card only my bank one several different times. And I've stopped doing that even. I just use a cash account. I almost always have OBC nowadays with my booking and they usually only need another couple of hundred and I just use cash. I don't have credit cards either and using cash just makes all the stress go away! I don't drink or shop or blow more than $20 a day in the casino so I don't have to deal with a whole lot of cash either! I'm not really a revenue generator, I'm more just sort of along for the ride! 😁
