muskokacruizerz Posted February 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Is there any fee for converting travellers' checks to cash at the front desk on HAL's ships? A fellow cruiser read somewhere that HAL levies a 3% fee to exchange travellers cheques for cash (all U.S. dollar denominated). Is that true? (They never used to)
jhannah Posted February 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2006 There's another thread covering this now running. Someone said he was charged on his recent cruise, while others said they weren't charged on their most recent cruise. The jury is still out, I believe. wwinfl91 Posted February 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I can tell you for sure that on our last HAL cruise in 2004 there was NO additional charge for cashing travelers checks at the front desk on the Maasdam. I suppose it is possible that HAL has initiated a new charge. I would suggest checking directly with HAL to get the word from the Horse's mouth so to speak. Have a great next cruise. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I am hoping that others getting off various ships soon report in about this. I know there wasn't any fee on our November 2005 Ryndam cruises. If HAL is going to charge 3%, then we will cash our travelors checks at the hotel before we get on the ship. gizmo Posted February 23, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I have another thread going on this. I am asking the Rev or anyone in his group to see if they can find out. I have a family memeber cruising in a couple of weeks and it would be nice to know what is going on before she leaves. I think Doone got off the Volendam yesterday. Maybe she knows. eldercruser Posted February 23, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Just disembarked today. Cashed cheques twice at the front office. No service charge whatsoever (or at the casino either).
