gamergirl Posted March 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2022 Are there any Car Rental places in St. Thomas that will rent a car for the day? I'm having trouble finding any and am wondering if this is not an option any more? If not, how easy is it to find a taxi to Sapphire Beach? What is the approximate cost for a family of 4 (2 adults/2 teens)? Thanks!
blue_water Posted March 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2022 We’ve only rented by the week so not sure… A shared, safari-type taxi to Sapphire would be $10 - $11/pp each way and taxis are easy to find at the port and for your return. So unless you want to tour the island a rental probably wouldn’t be much cheaper…
blue_water Posted March 15, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2022 I see several agencies around the ports, gave you called or emailed most of them already for availability and price? https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&channel=iphone_bm&tbs=lf:1,lf_ui:2&tbm=lcl&q=st+thomas+car+rental&rflfq=1&num=10#rlfi=hd:;si:;mv:[[18.35441456817415,-64.9160659635993],[18.312170212755444,-64.94198683151922],null,[18.33329368058136,-64.92902639755926],15]
Rare mitsugirly Posted March 16, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 16, 2022 There will be taxi's everywhere when you get off the ship. It would be so much easier to just grab one and go. Taking the time to rent a vehicle, signing the paperwork and so on will eat up a lot of your time if you're not planning on going anywhere but Sapphire. No worries, they know when the ships are in port and everyone will be waiting to take your money there and back. 🙂
blue_water Posted March 17, 2022 #5 Share Posted March 17, 2022 Mitsugirly is correct, STT is just so easy to get around with drivers who do it all year. if you wanted to see Skyline Drive and Mountaintop or Drake’s Seat on your return a rental makes that much easier. But some drivers will offer to go that way for a “mini-tour” on the return to port for a nominal fee, and you can ask drivers who stop in to Sapphire if any are doing that…
GB Chicago Posted March 19, 2022 #6 Share Posted March 19, 2022 The drivers and road conditions in St. Thomas are not for the faint of heart!

I disagree, but I’ve driven Tortola so…🙈 But the south drive to Red Hook and then Sapphire is pretty flat… Edited March 20, 2022 by blue_water

blue_water Posted March 21, 2022 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2022 Yes not sure where you are docked, but Budget has 3 locations, including Long Bay (Havensight/WICO) and Crown Bay. WE’ve rented from their airport locations multiple times and have never had a problem with them…
