sfaaa Posted March 25, 2022 #27 Share Posted March 25, 2022 There are tax rules and tax treaties specifically dealing with non US corporations and shareholders. To simply assume non US taxpayers don't have to pay US tax is a myth and untrue.

That's just one aspect of it. One also has to consider where the mind and management of the company is situated to determine its true location. So what is the convenience of registering elsewhere? Seems like the passenger act is more of an inconvenience. #1 reason.... avoiding taxes. None of the big 3 pay taxes to the IRS on the billions they bring in.

I was always under the assumption the only monies outlayed by cruise lines is to the country of registry that has a deal in place not to tax ships that is also approved by the IRS. If I am wrong, I apologize.

Taxation and protection from legal liabilities in US are two total different animals. There are now discussions of implementing a 15% minimum tax worldwide regardless of where a company is registered. If adopted, the registration location may become a moot point in he near future.
