Juneau info PLEASE!!!

Hi- Planning a cruise to ALaksa in August 06. We are on Princess, so we will be going through College Fjord. In Juneau, we were planning a canoe excursion through cruise line. Also want to whale watch and Mendenhall glacier! However, now I am reading info re: Tracy Arm and trying to decide if we should scrap all other plans in Juneau and do this instead.

Any advice would be appreciated!!:)

Have you been to Juneau before??? Since you are going to College Fjords and Glacier Bay, I would suggest you may want to consider the whale watch since that is different than the three glacier viewings. Determine what your priority is and realize Alaska is all about compromises and never is a one time trip. :)

As said, since you are already viewing 2 glaciers, go for the whale watch - you will love it!!

DH and I are on the Diamond Princess going in Aug. 06 and we decided to book the whalewatch w/Capt. Larry in Juneau. Many threads out there on his whalewatch trips. All positive. He was away in Hawaii, but he's back now. I booked on Tuesday of this week. Capt. Larry actually will drop you off at Mendenhall Glacier and you can take the shuttle back to the dock, so I've read.

I booked this week also. We will be on the Vision though. So Capt. Larry says he will drop you off at the glacier? Is there anything to do there that you know of besides look at it?

You have to inquire directly about possible glaicer drop offs/pick ups. Not a given with shuttle schedules.

 

Yes you "look at" Mendenhall, but hiking available, small visitor center, ranger activies. http://www.fs.fed.us/r10/tongass/districts/mendenhall/
