Under 5 precruise testing

Eye roll, I know, and I apologize in advance.

 

Looking for someone with experience with a child under 5 and what the pre-cruise testing looked like.  She is obviously not vacced but she has to take an antigen test at embarkation and again within 24 hours of debarking.  What does the test at embarkation look like?  I just want to know what to prepare for.

should be the same old nose swab test not sure if thats what you mean by "what does it look like"

From the moment you get there you will get pulled to a separate check in line where they will check the docs for all those in your family. Once all those docs/vaccine cards are checked out someone will guide you to the testing area, passing through the standard metal detector check on the way.

 

One parent will go in with the unvaccinated child while the other waits just outside the testing area. You will hopefully have pre-registered per the Carnival email a few days before the cruise for this testing, so you will check in and get taken for a nasal swab. There is a waiting area where you'll, wait to be called and notified of your results, and taken over to the final check in desk while collecting the other member(s) of your party along the way (we got escorted to the next available agent past the line) and finally onboard. Easy peasy and low stress.

Unvaccinated guests, including those under 5, still have to do a PCR test 3 days (or 2 if back in time) before the sailing date.  They will also be tested at the port and on the ship before debarkation.

Also, the morning before debark you will bring the child for another rapid test. We had to go to the lounge that hosts punchliner at an assigned time. 1 parent goes with the child, this was a nose swab as well.

Not mentioned above is that Carnival charges like $150 for this testing to your room account, so be aware of that. I'm not sure of this but someone was complaining about it at a casino table I was sitting at.

Also, in case anyone is reading this with a less than 2 year old, they are exempt from all testing! I did Carnival Valor with my 14 month old earlier this month. We still had to go through the "unvaccinated" check in process and supposedly a doctor checked him out (didn't even really look at him as far as I noticed) but no test was needed prior to, during, or after embarkation or disembarkation.

I was aware of the charge although it's a pretty high charge considering tests can be had for $10.

wait what?? Im  vacinnated and boosted. Taking my 4 year old grandson. we are getting  tested 3  days prior. Are you saying he has to be tested again at the port and prior to debark and they are charging me $150 to do so? and i need to make an appointment?
