luvemcruzes Posted February 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2006 when arriving at the islands is it ship time or Island time that is given by HAL i.e. St Maarten we arr at 11 a.m. ship time but is that also the island time. I know there have been some islands that are a few hours behind us!
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2006 99% of the time the ships's clocks will be adjusted to coincide with an islands time. There will be a card under your chocolate reminind you when to fast forward or turn back your clocks (watches). There will also be a notice in the daily program. So when they say 11 AM St Maarten, that will be the time on the ship as well.
mrskmirolla Posted February 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2006 Your time is the destination time of day, that is why they put notes in your cabin informing you to either set your clocks ahead or behind. Kathy
luvemcruzes Posted February 26, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted February 26, 2006 On all my previous (other than Cunard transatlantic) cruises they stayed on Departure city time. We were constantly reminded not to go by Island time or we would be waving goodbye from the dock. My last cruise was in August.......so has this changed
wander Posted February 26, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2006 On all of my HAL cruises they have changed the clocks to local time each day, even between sea days IF we crossed time zones.
RuthC Posted February 26, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2006 All of my cruises, too, have had a change in clock when there was a change in time zone. I even managed to get a bar bill for a day that didn't exist when we crossed the International Date Line! (time change is 2:00 AM; I had two hours of drinking time.) I always have trouble understanding why this question even comes up as I can't understand why a ship wouldn't change to the time zone it was in. Grumpy1 Posted February 27, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 27, 2006 Wasn't there a recent posting that indicated that the Oosterdam did not change time for one port stop? Or is Grumpy's memory not what it used to be.
Jules1 Posted February 27, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 27, 2006 Correct, there was a posting that it doesn't change to Central Time in Puerto Vallarta.
RuthC Posted February 27, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 27, 2006 Oh, you certainly are right, Grumpy---it was posted and confirmed. It makes no sense, however, to me. Apparently it's the only stop on any itinerary of HAL's that the clock isn't changed.
lougee1043 Posted February 27, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 27, 2006 correct-for some crazy reason the ship DOES NOT adjust to local time in pv- so there is always an hour diff --- may be a good idea to wear 2 watches
