pepsicruiser Posted February 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2006 I can't seem to find the site to order Birth Certificates on line. I know I saved it someplace but can't find it. Anyone have the name of that site???? Thank you
Dockman123 Posted February 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2006 I always thought that you had to get it from either the county or state where you were born. I see you are from NY. If you were born there is a link to their vital records.http://genealogy.about.com/library/vital/blnewyork.htm
rjg41 Posted February 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2006 You do not need some company to charge you an arm and a leg to get a BC. Contact the agency in the state/city where you were born. Unfortunately, it is not the state, as suggested earlier, in all cases. For example if you were born in NYC or Buffalo it is not the state. Other states also divide up the records retention sometimes. I did a google search and found this outfit. Don't know anything about them but I did some tests cases and they definitely direct you to the right agencies. http://www.vitalchek.com/?clicked=1 It wasn't clear if they merely are a search engine or they extract a fee. I would just use their search engine and then order the BC by bypassing their web site and going direct to the agency web site.
DFritz Posted February 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2006 Vitalchek will run you about $40 for a quick delivery. Well worth it if you are in a pinch. We've had two day delivery before and it was only two days.
Jan_In_Maine Posted February 25, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2006 We used vitalchek - My DH was born in Georgia and when I called there they said that I had to use vitalchek and could not go through the county directly. It was a surprise when I was getting docs together to get pass posts to look at my DH's "birth certificate" and realize it was only the hospital copy - 52 years old and he had never had a "real" birth certificate. Glad I caught it early.
