Where to eat Gator near Port Canaveral

Hello, we are staying in Port Canaveral for 1 night prior to our cruise. I have two teenage boys and would love to take them somewhere to eat some gator. We are from Ireland so this would be a real novelty for them. 

 

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best place to find gator on the menu.

I did a quick Google search of restaurants serving Gator in Cocoa Beach and there appear to be a bunch of them.  I have not eaten Gator much so I don’t have an opinion, but I sure you can find something if you check the reviews.  Hopefully, someone has more insight than that…

Just a few miles south of the port in Cocoa Beach, we like Cocoa Beach Fish Camp. They have a few gator things on the menu.  Disclaimer - I don't eat gator but I do like their other food.  🙂

If yours sons are looking for a novelty have them try the fried Swamp Rat on a stick, however, you may have to get away from the more touristy areas to find it. I think its actually nutriea a large rat like swamp creature.

It is actually a nutriea which is a large rat like animal.  Nutriea live in swamps and even around small lakes in the South.  It is usually served fried but sometimes grilled. Its usually served on a stick . Dont get me wrong I was raised and lived on a Texas farm and ranch and I have eaten about everything but I have never eaten fried rattlesnake or swamp rat.  I just cant do it.

I understand.  I couldn't do it either.  Because I was a Zoology major, it took me awhile to try baby Octopus and Squid (Calamari).  I knew too much about them to eat them.

Nutria - no, Gator on the Miccosukee Reservation - yes. Rattlesnake in the army - yes. Frankly, both the gator and snake tasted like chicken.

Chicken is cheaper, and rarely tries to kill you. And octopuses (I know people say Octopi, but that's actually incorrect) are very smart, but also very delicious.

The gator at Gators tastes just like popcorn chicken.  Its heavily breaded.

Unfortunately, breaded gator tends to be very heavily breaded! Almost to the point, where there is more breading, than gator.
