Booking dining packages using onboard credit

I`ve just come off the phone to Azamara. 

My intention was to book a dining package using OBC . I was told by the agent that I can only book shore excursions on the phone and must book dining packages using OBC once onboard.

Anyone had this experience?

Yes that is correct, you cannot book them until onboard.  When you go to make the reservations for the restaurants you will sort out the package at the same time.  It works very well.  Currently they are only booking at one place, a table at the entrance to Windows Cafe on Deck 9
