Price drop query

 Share

Recommended Posts

I booked a cruise on Anthem using a UK TA. It was booked in January 2021 and the original price quoted was 3308.48GBP. We had 476GBP each FCC because RCCL had cancelled our cruise on Indepedence when they cancelled Independence's 2020 UK season.

We received an invoice for 2356.48GBP, the amount left after the FCC was applied, which has been fully paid.

I asked my TA to reprice the cruise as there appears to have been significant price drops recently. They have said that the current cruise price is 2953GBP so that is more than we have paid so there is no price drop.

I have gone back to my TA to say that it now may be more than we have "paid"  but the actual cruise costs a lot less than the total price it has cost, including the FCC.

The TA has now said that RCCL's charge to change the booking would be more than the difference between the price when I booked and the price now so I would be worse off if I repriced the booking.

Is my TA correct?

The cruise is on June 5th 2022 out of Southampton.

Assuming you booked before 3/30 this year, CWC rules should apply to that booking and you should probably get a refund/OBC.

Should be covered by CWC and you should be entitled to the difference between the current price and the price you paid as OBC (assuming you've paid the full balance). Your TA is either misinformed or lazy, or possibly both!!

You are in the right assuming the price has gone down. It should be covered with CWC & the best price guarantee. You should be getting the difference back in OBC as it's after final payment.

Quote the 'best price guarantee' to your TA. Screenshot the price you are seeing on the website now.

They can't argue this.

Thank you for your replies.

A week further on and I am no nearer having this resolved.

I went back to my TA and advised that it should be covered by the best price guarantee etc. After four days (by which time the prices/offers had changed) and said that they had said that I could upgrade from our carefully chosen 4D cabin to a 2C cabin on deck 7, which I refused as deck 7 is where we want to be. They advised that they would have to:

"keep calling them in the hope that there is a cabin available in your category as if we are booking again, so that RCCL can see the current price and offer the PRICE MATCH".

I then pointed out that there were several 4D cabins available (as RCCL was in the middle fo handing out Royal Up upgrades) and the response was:

"They have re calculated that cabin and as they see this as downgrade the price will work out more at £2732.48. When checking on the system, RCCL look at this as a current booking not a new booking when we check this on live availability. I have asked again if they have had any cancellations for the current cabin that you are in to see if we can then get this under the price match but again still sold out, so I will keep trying as best as I can".

So, it now appears that I have to be satisfied with waiting until my TA decides to contact RCCL again (which I doubt will happen as they always have to tell me how busy they are and how long it takes to get through to them) on the off-chance that there happens to have been a cancellation, which can then be used to calculate the refund/OBC.

Does anyone have any advice (other than never using this TA again?)

Duncan

I thought we had different rules in the U.K.? I.e the price you book at originally is the price you pay.

My understanding was we don’t get the price drop like the Americans.

I may be wrong?!?

True, in non-COVID times, but under CWC (ends in a few months) you can get price drops, even inside final payment.

Ah interesting to know! We go from Southampton on 22 May our original price has nearly doubled so very happy here.

Also you saying that I rang to book a three night dining package and had already booked and paid for the drinks package for both of us previously. The drinks package was on a special and the rep said I can save you money on that and cancelled and refunded the original one and charged us the new price.

Saved us £350 (0ver $400) I was very pleasantly surprised and happy. Never had that before
