Suggestions needed: ways to send messages to other family members in party?

White boards and post-it's aren't what I am looking for. Is there an affordable way to send messages to/from my teen? I want to let him check himself in/out and would like to send text messages. How does that work?

 

Does Carnival's HUB app have a way to message each other and if so, does it work well?

Got my answer, Groundloop (huge thanks) on Carnival board let me know that on Carnival we can pay $5 p/p to use messenger feature in the Hub app. Since I'm sailing Carnival, that will be amazing!
