PAMJP Posted May 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2022 We usually purchase the wine package and always enjoy the choices we have, be it the Commodore or Captains package. Does anyone have any information about Cunard Own Label wines, which we assume are similar to land restaurant House Wines? Thanks.
Rare D&N Posted May 15, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2022 We have never tasted Cunard's wines, but .... http://www.jeandalibert.fr/ Appear to be a group of coop wineries that specialise in supplying own label wines. As such their produce is likely to be of a quality that would be served as a house wine in mainstream restaurants in France. Probably on a par with the stuff we buy from our local hypermarket and drink on a daily basis. Generally very drinkable without having the qualities that a wine expert might judge the wine on. We usually buy Merlot as it is on special offer more frequently than Cabernet Sauvignon but both taste nice. For Rosé we're offered Syrah most frequently but the various blends available taste good too. In Whites we choose the Sauvignon Blanc over Chardonnay as it doubles up as a cooking wine, but I'm sure the blend Cunard offer will be drinkable as well. Very rarely we open a box that has a peculiar flavour but if you got that on Cunard you simply tell the sommelier it's off and get a replacement. If you expect to judge the hue, nose and chestnuts, blueberries, citrus fruits etc from your wines you may be disappointed, but if you're happy to glug you should be satisfied. 🍷🍸 We keep the better wines in our Cave for Sundays and special occasions. Rare Jack E Dawson Posted May 15, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2022 PAMJP We just got off the QM2 this morning and had a bottle of the Cunard Chardonnay last night. The price was $37.95. They also cell a red at the same price. Your assessment of it to be similar to the house wine in a restaurant is correct, except I would add, in a good restaurant. We found it very nice. ExArkie Posted May 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2022 The producer for the Cunard Private Label Wines is Jean d'Alibert in France's Languedoc region (as noted above). Most of the independent ratings that I have seen for various Jean d'Alibert wines are in the range of 3 to 4 on a scale of 5. Generally, middle of the road for that region, not the best and not the worst. I find them to be drinkable and enjoyable.
tv24 Posted May 15, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2022 We always get an amenity of a free bottle of wine, Cunard label, on any voyage. I think it is linked to our use of AmEx. Anyway, we have enjoyed red and rose. Nothing wrong with either one. Quite drinkable and enjoyable. Not sure if I would buy them, but for free, they are just fine. techteach Posted May 15, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2022 Thank you to all for this information. I had wondered about the Cunard label. Chardonnay Viognier is a blend I haven’t tried.
PAMJP Posted May 16, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted May 16, 2022 Many thanks for all your replies, we sail in October on QV on the Northern lights cruise and now will feel confident in trying Cunard own label wines. Pam.
Underwatr Posted May 19, 2022 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2022 I agree with the opinion of others - they're fine, and among the lowest priced in the wine list.

I will call Amex next week because I have paid the first cruise with FCC and Amex and the second cruise with Amex online via Cunard. Perhaps they will gave me the benefits only when booking a cruise via the Amex site.

I have received the OBC and wine when using the AmEx site to book. Others report receiving it when just using the card to pay. Best to ask them.

Spoke to AmEX today and they told me that there are no benefits at the moment with Cunard. Sad but true....no extra wine.
