Orianababes Posted May 16, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2022 Hello All shortly setting off on Britannia, seems an age since the last cruise after so many cancellations Would be interested to know the price of bottles of gin, bought on board for consumption on board. Additionally how much are the cans of mixers? Do you buy them through cabin steward? Looking to enjoy the odd drink on balcony and hopefully avoid having to bring own supplies on board
daiB Posted May 16, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2022 Last month they were £25.00. Both the mixers and Gin are obtained from room service
Bazrat Posted May 16, 2022 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2022 They usually have sales in the duty free which work out cheaper.
wowzz Posted May 16, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 16, 2022 But you cannot collect the bottles from the duty free until the last night.
Pine Man Posted May 16, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2022 Probably cheaper to take a bottle with you on embarkation and replenish, as necessary, on port visits.

Provided you are allowed to bring it on board. They do ask you to leave it on entry and collect it on the last day of the cruise. Shops in some ports, including some duty free, can be more expensive than room service.

No one could care less on our last cruise. And if you are in a port where your bags are scanned in the terminal, the cruise personnel never check your bags anyway. Below is the P&O policy on bringing alcohol aboard:- Each guest aged 18 years (21 years in United States of America ports) and older may bring up to 1 litre of wine, Champagne, beer, spirit, or liqueur on board as they embark the ship for the first time only. Alcohol over the 1 litre limit will be stored and returned to the guest prior to the end of the cruise. If this alcohol is consumed in the dining rooms, bars, restaurants or lounge areas, it will be subject to a corkage fee of £20* per bottle, per occasion which will be charged to the guest’s on-board account. That indeed is the policy, but that does not mean it is enforced.

Every penny counts when trying to increase the balance sheet and recoup the losses of the last couple of years.

Rare Eddie99 Posted May 17, 2022 #12 Share Posted May 17, 2022 … and the more people push at the boundaries or game the system, the more likely the company is to bring in a total clampdown. The policy used to be even more relaxed but social media etc proclaimed “Bring what you like. It doesn’t matter. You’ll get away with it”. Idiots turned up with packs and packs of beer etc - clampdown followed imo the current policy is nicely relaxed. Bring your special bottle but don’t try to cheat to save a tenner. You may ruin it for everyone The OP wasn’t even asking about bringing alcohol onboard anyway! 🙂
Fionboard Posted May 17, 2022 #13 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Stops in GiB were usually late in the itinerary and seem to phasing out now!

He was merely enquiring about buying it on board to drink on his balcony. Not an unreasonable query nor was my legitimate, alternative, solution. Fionboard Posted May 17, 2022 #15 Share Posted May 17, 2022 Do not drink gin but sometimes buy a bottle of wine from the pub for my fridge. Costs about 20 quid with my discount.
