This is not typically the way upsells/bidding works. From a business model, the purpose of the upsell is to generate new revenue. The original price doesn't come into play. The goal is to generate as much new revenue as possible.

 

Many would consider it 'nice' if the process rewarded those who booked early and paid the most, but that isn't reality.
