Ranchi Posted June 13, 2022 #27 Share Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) So sorry to hear of your situation. Another possibility which we used when there was a problem getting insurance was to contact BIBA (Brit Ins Brokers’ Assn.) When you phone them they ask you the general details of your situation and then suggest 3 (it was three in our case) companies who are likely to provide cover for you to contact. The said to ring back if the initial three were unsuitable. The companies you contact will then carry out a detailed screening & offer a premium. As it happens we were quite satisfied with their first suggestion and took out cover there & then. Good luck. What I would do is go onto the Staysure website and get a quote. Just fill in all the details regarding pre-existing medical questions. You will get a answer straight away. Now it may be that it is too soon after your wife's stroke for them to consider insuring her, or very high premium, if that is the case, try another dummy run, and when asked how long ago the stroke was, give a longer time period. This may then give you the answer to how long you will need since your wife's stroke to obtain a suitable quote. And remember that different insurers have different “lookback” periods for PECs (one may be within 60 days of policy purchase while another may be 90 days). If the surgery of initial diagnosis occurred before the start of the lookback period, it is not a PEC (for insurance purposes). But, any new diagnosis or change in MD visits, treatments, medications, surgeries during the lookback period IS a PEC dor insurance.

I contacted BIBA and they are eager to assist, but my wife has to be cleared as 'fit to travel by a Doctor first. That's a ways down the road, but I'll be getting back to BIBA when the time comes.
