Lulubelle45 Posted June 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2022 Can anyone answer this for me? If a cruiseline cancels your cruise, do you also receive a refund for the travel and medical insurance you have purchased for the cruise?? What if it’s privately purchased?? It’s over $300 that I shouldn’t be out if I wasn’t the one who cancelled. Thanks

Chances are that if the cruise line cancelled the entire cruise and you purchased the insurance through them, you'd probably get a refund of the insurance cost as well. However, for 3rd party coverage, that might not be the case. For at least some policies, if there has been no loss, then the premium can be re-applied to another trip within a certain time interval. (We've made use of that a couple of times, having the premium that wasn't used for one trip that was cancelled to be applied to some other trip.) Keep in mind that for some types of coverage, for example if you are covered after payment penalties set in, the the insurer is already exposed for some loss (e.g., if you get sick and can't go), so it's not as though there was no coverage at all until the actual travel date. Of course not. Life's not fair sometimes. However, like GC said, some insurance polies will allow you to re-apply that premium to a future trip. Just be aware that GC and I are from the US though. I can't say what the laws or practices are in Canada.
