Pre- and Post-cruise visiting NYC

Hello,

We will be on Oasis of the Seas in August and we want to visit NYC for a day.
We plan to do Legoland New York for couple of days and then want to do NYC for 1 full-day (Sat) before the cruise and 1.5 days post cruise.

And we're doing Sleep & Cruise near EWR, 7 day free parking.

Should we park somewhere in New Jersey and take the PATH into the city?
Or should we stay in a hotel overnight (Friday night) and leave the car there and take the public transit into the city?

What about when we come back from the cruise? Should we leave our car at the hotel there and go directly to NYC and stay in the city for 1 night?

If yes, what would be the best way of getting to NYC?

Thank you.

Parking in NJ and taking the PATH will be less expensive and most likely less hassle than driving into the city just to walk around. I'm not sure whether you mean stay in your park and cruise hotel or not but that would work-- you may have to Uber to a PATH station. Staying in the city will be much more enjoyable and less back and forth but if you are already in NJ and planning on using a park and cruise hotel there this would work fine.

For this part I would consider staying in NYC for the night if you can get an extra day out of the park and cruise hotel where your car will be. I would just take an Uber/Lyft from Cape Liberty into Manhattan and stay at a hotel in midtown that fits your needs and budget. This will allow you to be close to a lot of the major sites in town and make for a much more leisurely stay than commuting back and forth to NJ.
