We were in Guadeloupe in 1996 and found a park-like area near the ship with cafes and shops.  Can anyone tell me if it is still there, the name of it, and how to get there from the ship?

Perhaps worth looking on Google Earth which I find very useful.

The area directly around the port is fairly run down and some areas of Pointe à Pitre are not that safe.

We went to the Mémorial ACTe (memorial-acte.fr), which deals with the history of slavery in the Caribbean. It was very well done and very moving.

We also went to the Aquarium and enjoyed that.

There are also rum distilleries to visit, plantations (coffee, vanilla, etc), hikes through the rainforest, cute villages (like Deshaies), etc

Hi,

How did you get to Memorial ACTe from the cruise pier? Taxi or walk? If you walked, were there sidewalks the whole way?

Thanks
