Glad I chose Carnival insurance

Recently chose to cancel a cruise. I had Carnival insurance so went online and chose cancel for any reason for 75% back in future cruise credit. Three weeks later got an E-mail from Carnival that my future cruise credit is available.

This worked out very well for me since I had booked with a cheap casino rate so my out of pocket loss was very minimal. Also if I had picked a different/ cheaper insurance it wouldn't have worked out in my favor. The only minor issue is that the FCC has to be used in a year.

The "cancel for any reason" portion of Carnival's insurance is offered by Carnival themselves, not the insurance company Aon that underwrites the rest of the policy.

"Cancel for any reason" is incidentally also partly why Carnival's insurance is so much more expensive than other travel insurance options.

If you think you may end up needing to cancel, you should definitely buy Carnival's insurance.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I went to insure my trip for the last 2 cruises and what I was quoted was not cheap☹️ Carnivals insurance at $49 a person was cheap lol.

Carnival insurance is less expensive for seniors than many outside insurance companies, who base their premiums on age.  Carnival’s insurance premium is the same for all ages and is based on the cost of the cruise.

Good to know, I wasnt aware of that.

Huh, I didn't know that either (but it makes sense).

I've always just assumed Carnival's CFAR insurance was higher than other insurers and got mine through InsureMyTrip, but I'll have to look a bit more closely in the future.

The difference is that third-party insurance reimburses in cash - not FCC.

The FCC provided by Carnival is a non-insurance benefit that does not cost the cruise line much. It has no impact on the insurance product which is underwritten by Nationwide.

CAF is good.  Limits on medical not so good.  Be sure to look at all the coverages that matter to You.

I think this is the real issue. If all you are worried about is canceling your cruise then Carnival might be the best option

But if you want full insurance...covering air, hotels, etc, then it is almost always the worst option.

And getting a FCC is imho worse than getting cash back.
