New York Cruise - Casino Drinks on Us - 1st day availability?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I leave next week on the Carnival Magic out of New York City.

I am booked with a promo that is 'drinks on us anywhere on the ship'.  I have used this before and have had no issues.

I was watching a Youtube video over the weekend that mentioned possible issues with getting my free drinks on day 1 due to New York laws.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I didnt pay for the program, so i am not sure that NY law applies.

Am i only able to get free drinks from the casino bar on the first day?  or am i going to be charged for all of it on day one?

We have not departed from New York but Galveston is similar (no Cheers on day 1).

But DOU were available day 1 in that case too.

Note that in both cases mentioned (Texas and New York) departing ships...  The Casino drinks program (either DoU or DoUE, whichever comes with your offer), the T&C says it does not start until day two at 6 a.m.  In practice, however, it most often starts when the casino opens (which is when the ship hits international waters and New York law no longer controls.

So while YMMV, generally you're fine about an hour or two after departure.  Prior to that, drinks you order will be billed to your S&S account in either port.

Thanks for your input. I have "Free Drinks Everywhere" on my sailing out of NYC on August 15 and been wondering if drinks would be available on the 1st day. I assume they won't be available until the first full day... if they are available sooner it will be a bonus. It is always quite nice to get on the ship though and order that first drink on the Lido or Serenity bar and know your drink is free. I guess I can survive one cruise that not being the case lol.

Also, if your play is sufficient… the hosts can express all manner of discretion for waiving charges on your folio…
