wa.mama Posted March 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2006 A previous poster brought up this question, still yet unanswered. We booked our room before finding out that there was a "smoking" side and a "nonsmoking" side for the public areas. If one has a port side room, does one have a higher chance of having a previous smoking occupant in that room? Or rephrased, those of you who smoke, are you more apt to book a port side room? Just curious. Don't yell at me, Mr. Lee.
Druke I Posted March 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2006 I don't believe Celebrity designates cabins as "smoking" & "non-smoking" like some lines do. That said, they seem to do a good job ridding cabins of lingering stale smoke odors.

I do not believe one side of the ship would be worse than the other. If there is any lingering cigarette smoke, the cabin attendant can get rid of much of it. Dont ask me how they do it :) Enjoy your Cruise !

They don't ask people when booking if they are smokers or not so they would have no way of desginating rooms as such for previous cruises.
flashdog_1 Posted March 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Although i try to do my smoking in public areas, and outdoors, I do occasionally smoke in the cabin regardless of whether it is port or starboard, inside, outside, veranda or suite. There is no restriction on smoking in the cabin or private balcony. If my traveling companion does not mind that I smoke, I smoke inside the cabin. Both my husband and daughter are very smoke conscious, and neither has ever said anything about any cabin smelling like smoke when we entered. They do a good job of de-smoking? the rooms. CaribbeanBound Posted March 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Surprisingly, we've never had a smoky-smelling cabin --- unlike a lot of hotel rooms and cars I've been in. On the flip side, if even one smoker lights up anywhere they are permitted to smoke on Zenith, like the casino or lounge, it becomes uninhabitable pretty quickly. jerseygirl3 Posted March 2, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 2, 2006 After our week onboard the Infinity this past month, we boarded the Carnival Liberty. The Liberty is practically brand new, and when we entered our cabin, it wreaked of stale cigarette smoke. Normally I am not too bothered by that, but it was nauseating. I immediately found our cabin steward, who said he had been trying to rid the cabin of the smell ever since the previous occupants had vacated. He said he would "run the machine" again, this time for an hour. The "machine" looked like a cannister vacuum cleaner, and it didn't put out a perfumey smell, but instead seemed to suck in the stale air. Anyway, when we returned an hour later, it was much, much better. You could still detect a faint smell, but nothing like it had been before. wa.mama Posted March 2, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted March 2, 2006 Sounds like the cruise ships have it more together than most hotels do. I'm not much bothered by a little smoke, but there are certain people in our party that will "languish". I hope not to be in the room much anyway :p
rjg41 Posted March 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 2, 2006 The "smoking side of the ship" applies to public areas only. There are no non- smoking cabins.
smdubowsky Posted March 2, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 2, 2006 We have been in port and starboard cabins and we've never encountered a problem. PS My wife is a stickler for smelly rooms and we've changed many hotel rooms over time.
