Getting off the ship

Can anybody tell me approximately how long it takes to get off the ship once you are docked on the island. Thanks!

depends on where you are & if they take excursons off first...

They have to do a customs thing with the ship, most times if we got in at 7am we could be off by 9am and some morns at 8am. Just depends on what place and how long it takes for the paperwork to get done. We just always decide that 2 hours after we dock we take off and have never had an issue with it.

It also depends on what time the ship arrives in port. If the ship docks at 7:00AM most people will either still be in bed or will be eating breakfast. If you head to the gangway at that time you should be able to walk right off. Conversely, if the ship arrives at 10:00AM people will start to gather in the area near the gangway by 9:30AM so they can be off the ship first. If you are not at the head of the line it can take a few minutes to process everyone through the security machines to leave the ship.

Which island? Also keep in mind that the ships don't dock at all islands. They tender at some.

I have to say that RCCL does an excellent job of getting people on and off the ship. Whether it is embarkation, on the islands, tenders or debarkation. We were very impressed on the Mariner. We got to the ship to embark at 12:30 or so and were on the ship in 15 minutes. The tender at the Coco Cay was a huge boat (akin to a pontoon boat, but much larger and double decker), we didn't wait more than 5 minutes getting off the ship (coming back to the ship was different, but we waited until almost the last tender). Immegration was before St. Thomas, and we literally walked in the dining room (4 of us) and less than 5 minutes later, we were on our way to the gangway. Grabbed a couple of bottled waters and we were off the ship. No immigration in St. Martin and again, we had no wait to get off the ship. It was probably 9:30 when we were ready to go on the islands, not immediately after we docked. Debarkation back at Port Canavaral was a breeze for us because we used carry on bags and were the first off the ship. Immigration took 5 minutes. We were completely blown away at how easy it was. It was our 5th cruise, 1st on RCCL. That in and of itself made it worth the extra money! lol
