Rare dickinson Posted May 20, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Is it possible to be picked up by friends when getting off the ship? Any tips or guidelines? kajsb Posted May 20, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2004 It's a cinch to have someone drop you off at the Long Beach port. Just drive in, drop off, and leave. Rare dickinson Posted May 20, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Thanks. I am sure that info will help some people reading this but I need info on being picked up after the cruise. S.S. Cruisers Posted May 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Dickinson: Yes, but not quite as easy. They cannot just park at curb and wait for you. You must be at curb side and a parking spot open by you. Have gone back to hotel picked up vehicle and gone back to pick up DH. Its very stressful. Everyone is yelling at everyone. The security people are waving you on and telling you to KEEP MOVING. If no parking space available, you have to circle around. People without their ride there are in the way at curbside. Might be easier to get a cab to take you to another pick up point. Like parking lot of a hotel close by, maybe the Queen Mary. marklodi Posted May 20, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Here's another suggestion: have your friend drive into the Parking garage and park, then walk down to the terminal and wait for you outside. I saw MANY people doing this, just waiting for loved ones to get off the ship. Then they went back to wherever their car was in the garage (usually accompanied by a porter hauling their luggage on a cart) and exited from there. The one thing I don't know is how much they would charge for the parking - whether it would be a full day ($10) or just a partial day. You could indeed also park in the QM parking lot, but with the construction walls they have up now, there is no easy way to get from the terminal to the Queen Mary without through the shopping village and then into the parking lot. That lot also charges a fee past 30 minutes. Hope that helps! Have a great cruise! kajsb Posted May 20, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2004 If you have cell phones, have your friends wait close by where they don't have to pay for parking. As soon as you have your luggage, give them a jingle. Rare dickinson Posted May 20, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Thanks folks! I think having our friends park in the garage (I'll pay them back for it) and walk to the ship to get us might be the best idea. I don't know how much a cab costs but I would imagine if we were to take a cab somewhere close the price would not be drastically different than $10 for the parking garage. Rare dickinson Posted May 20, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 20, 2004 Kathy, I didn't see your post when I just replied. The cell phone idea is good but another poster mentioned about the chaos to be picked up and how there is not much place for people to drive up. I see you have been on the Ecstasy a few times. What did you notice about people being picked up? kajsb Posted May 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 20, 2004 The first trip the ship was docked in San Pedro, but last year we did sail out of Long Beach. What an improvement! I didn't notice anyone having problems with being picked up.
