Switching Rooms on Board

I never cruise with more than one or two people, so never encountered this problem on my many cruises.

Our little family/friend reunion is experiencing growth with new SOs wanting to be added, and that’s kinda ruining the arrangement also difficult to change due to offer restrictions.

Once on board, can we swap rooms without having to carry an extra key?

Room keys themselves are tied to each individual's folio (on board acc't), as well as each person's  security photo, which  pops up each time a bartender or other ship crew member scans or swipes your card.

Folks could request extra keys that just unlock the stateroom door from Guest Services once you board the ship.

Make sure that as the organizer of this group, that you are not the financial guarantor of this group, and that everyone has their own credit card on file.

YES, you most certainly can switch rooms once on board and not have to carry extra key cards.  You just need to go to guest services and advise them who wants to switch to what room, and they will have new key cards made for the correct room for them.  All charging privileges follow them (it is based on the person, not the room) so just make sure all the accounts are set up correctly when you do your online check in 2 weeks before and each person is added with the correct credit card charging privileges.

We do this all the time when we cruise with my mom and dad so they can board with us (we are Diamond).  My mom and I in one room and my dad and hubby in the other, then mom and hubby just switch when we board.   Again, I just make sure the charge accounts are set up correctly (and you can give someone in a different room charging privileges when you are doing our check in as well as exclude anyone in a room you want to)

Curious also on this topic as it relates to the cheers program.

example guest A&C in room 1 with cheers

guest b &D in room 2 with no cheers.

can guest c&d switch rooms while on board and not have to purchase Cheers?

Have two expecting cruisers that do not wish to purchase cheers program.

Yes this happens a lot and as of yet Carnival either doesn't care or hasn't found a way to clamp down on it. It works.

The key though is B&D aren't switching rooms, they're just sleeping in a different room.

But what about B&D’s card access to the rooms they are sleeping in. That’s what I’m most curious about.

Their S&S card will open the room they were booked in and nothing will change that. If they want to get into the other room, they can go to guest services and ask for a spare room key and then they can trade keys.

Again, you can switch rooms and do not need to just get a key card for the other room. You can ask guest services to "switch the guest" in the rooms and they will rekey the cards accordingly.  As I said just make sure if you plan to do this you set up the on board accounts before you board accordingly.

There are multiple reasons this works to your advantage.

For us we do it when we sail with our elderly parents because they are not Diamond and we are so they can priority board with us.

It does also work if you have 2 rooms booked and certain people want cheers and others do not.  Put those that want cheers in one room and those that don't in the other and then just switch when you board.

I also do this all the time when I book a family vacation.  There are usually 10 of us.  A few get really good casino offers &/or have higher status.  We arrange the rooms to take advantage of the best price.  Once on board We wait for the guest services line to be manageable and switch everyone to the room they will be staying.  Everyone is issued new cards to the correct room.   As Wemjam said, we just set up the accounts accordingly.

We do the actual switch as we are not often together,  ie who likes inside cabins who likes the center, who likes the back.  Which means we are not in the same muster station.  Although it is a remote possibility I wouldn't want to be sleeping in one muster station but assigned to one far away, nor split from whom is in my immediate travelling party.
