Santiago to Buenos Aires weather issues

Hi,

Are there enough times that shore destinations are canceled because of weather that it should be taken into consideration when booking shore excursions?  I found Top Private Tours that indicates you don't pay if the destination is canceled because of weather, most of the others require 24 hour notice.

Forgot to mention we are scheduled to be on the cruise in early January

The one port that gets frequently cancelled are the Falkland Islands but I do not know if it is in your cruise.

Thanks!  No we don't go to the Falkland Islands, but I am mainly concerned about Punto Arenas and Ushuaia.

Puerto Montt can be a missed port if there are strong winds from the South.  Sometimes the ship has to anchor and tender if the tides are too low.  Might be too much chop on the water to safely tender.

 

Punta Arenas is famous for really strong winds.  The town even has bars along the sidewalks to hang on to.  We had 60 mph winds with higher gusts.  Most land excursions ran but anything on the water was cancelled as well as the excursion with the gondola ride and hike.  We had two tugs pull us off the dock upon departure.

 

Ushuaia is pretty bullet proof.

Any reputable tour company will refund your money if the ship does not dock or misses the port. If they don’t, keep looking. 
 

We are also doing this cruise in January.

I did not experience any shore excursion cancellations due to weather, even in Stanley (the Falkland Islands).
