lanceholt Posted September 1, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2022 We'll be on the NCL Joy next week and will be at the Portland ME cruise terminal......looking for a way to get to LL Bean in Freeport. Hoping to get some advice.....NCL is not offering a shuttle or excursion there.

Just look further down the board for the thread you started.
Susan in Maine Posted September 2, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2022 I gotta say, I don't understand the emphasis on going to Bean's (as we locals call it!). I LOVE Bean's - I go there several times a year. But it's just a store. A really cool store, but a store nevertheless. When I go to a new place, I like to see stuff that's interesting and unique to that place. It will take as long, if not longer, to get to Freeport from Portland and back as you'll spend in the store. Downtown Portland is a wonderful place with lots of independently owned stores (Freeport has your standard outlet stores like J. Crew, Old Navy, etc.) wonderful restaurants, etc. There's a small but interesting Museum of Art, The Victorian Mansion (pretty self explanatory) and and fun things like mail boats to then islands, whale watches, etc. This is, of course, my own opinion.

And it, too, is a really cool store (arguably more cool than L.L. Bean). The difference is that there is nothing else to see or do in Wall but for visiting Wall Drug Store. Portland has many other things to see and do. And perhaps, for some, visiting L.L. Bean is an attraction, especially Freeport being corporate headquarters. (I certainly have my own peculiar preferences of things to see and do that would likely draw curiosity or scorn from others!) Visiting L.L. Bean while in Portland would not be on my list--I, too, don't understand the interest in it--but I can see others, with interests different from mine, who do understand, wanting to do so.

We, too, are not big on shopping. Our home has more than we need! Never heard of Wall Drug, so thanks for the new info.
ericosmith Posted September 4, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2022 After seeing the hundreds of billboards for Wall Drug I vowed I would never go there. Sorry rather off topic. Having been to LL Bean I would certainly pick seeing something around Portland. But then my idea of shopping is to use a mouse.

I'll bet nothing like South of the Border on I95.

They had the South of the Border signs up when I was a wee lad in the 70s. What a junk heap: I didn't know it still existed. Still remember Pedro's forecast - "Chili today, hot tamale!"
