Leaving the Cruise before the end

You will need to make arrangements to do so.  It's not an issue in Europe but you need to be accounted for on the ship.  Imagine if you got off and then the ship was being held waiting for you to return at the end of the day 🙂

We did a cruise out of Germany last year but departed the ship in Estonia. Both are EU countries. We informed the Reception desk that morning that we needed to return early back to Germany because of personal business. They made us sign a form that said that we were voluntarily ending the cruise and that we were not entitled to any compensation because of the cruise ending early (for us). So I doubt you would have any issue departing your cruise early. Just inform Reception.

We wanted to do that once on a U.S. cruise.

We were told we could not because they did not have any customs people scheduled that day.

On US things can be more complicated because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act. Your itinerary needs to be valid at your final stop, or the cruise line could be subject to a hefty fine.
