Is the large amounts of onboard security staff new?

So one thing I noticed the most about my recent trip on the VV Scarlet Lady was the unusual amount of visible security walking around. I hadn't seen it mentioned in past reviews and made me wonder if it was a recent change? Security seemed to always be present at the pools and was always walking around the public venues. Saturated with security would have been how I would describe it. They all had body cams too.

Related, whilst onboard we did not notice any of the past comments from this thread from earlier in the season re drunk or high sailers. The only thing I heard was at the pool at the beach club someone mention they smelt marijuana earlier (but honestly all I smelt earlier was a cigar or pipe tobacco).

Interesting.  There have been at least three incidents recently on another cruise line, the most recent of which resulted in severe injuries to a passenger.  While I haven't heard of anything happening on VV, perhaps they decided to take action in advance of any issues.

We are on Valiant currently and a situation at the pool was escalating and we actually asked a pool attendant to call security in case it escalated. There was some controversy over chair "ownership". We hadn't noticed any security around the pool area but at least 6-8 people arrived very quickly, separated the parties, took statements, etc. Given how quickly they arrived their must be a decent number of officers on board.

I’ve noticed security in The Manor and at the pool party before, but nothing significantly more than you’d expect at any other nightclub type situation.

Didn’t notice them by the pool in the daytime before.

At Bimini Beach Club the security are provided by resorts world and I did see them escorting people out who were staying at a different resort and therefore shouldn’t have been in the beach club.

I suspect that the security personnel were always on board but that they are more obvious now.  That makes sense given that there have been several "incidents" recently on another cruise line and VV cruises are sailing with more passengers than previously.

The security staff are very evident on Scarlet Lady at the moment - not intrusive, but I keep on seeing them around the ship. They were called out on 2 occasions in the middle of the night a few nights ago (it may have been twice to the same incident), but I have not personally seen them in action.

On our Scarlet Lady cruise it wasn't any more noticeable than any other cruise line. However, because they are wearing black shirts with a big SECURITY on their back, they are more noticeable than the security officers on other ships. They look more like bouncers at a concert or bar than cruise officers. That may be why they seem 'so evident' on the ship, they don't blend in like the security officers on other ships.

I'm sure they are needed at the pools during the parties and to keep the peace in The Manor from time to time. As with any cruise ship, the more alcohol involved, the more security will be needed. 🙂
