2nd time back to SXM via cruise ship. Last trip with the kids we took a tour with Bernard. This time with hubby looking for a calm water beach where we can float for hours. Cruise line is offering an excursion to Great Bay Beach for $29.99 pp.  Bernard is offering a tour to Pinel Island for $35 pp - not including the cost pp for the ferry.  Any recommendations?

Pinel has calm water - $35 per person is you are a family group is pretty expensive - you could use a taxi for less but make sure you will be picked up for return to ship.  Divi Little Bay might be a better choice - easier and cheaper to get to - usually pretty calm water.  Galion beach is very calm - not sure if anything is there now other than beach itself - again, if using taxi, have to make sure of pick-up for return to ship.  I would recommend Little Bay.

$30 pp to Great Bay? One can walk it in about 15 minutes, with 2 beds and an umbrella for $20!

If taking Great Bay, then walk the Broadwalk to the furthest possible points, with sea on one’s left side.   This to avoid/reduce one’s opportunity to encounter effluent.  There are plenty of bars, restaurants and services along the Broadwalk

Advice.

Take a cab to Orient Bech (north end), consider Palm Beach

We've been vacationing in SXM for over 20 yrs. Highly recommend Pinel. Either Yellow Beach or Karibuni, both excellent. The beach at Le Galeon was affected by Irma and is no longer calm like it used to be. There are no services there at all.
