I appreciate the rebels that is all. The dress guidleines have lightened up as they led the way.

The rebels didn’t lead the way to eliminating formal nights. The airlines did after 9/11 when security rules got stricter and they started charging $30-$40 per piece of luggage.

Baggage fees had nothing to do with security or 9/11 and did not start until around 2008. A phony excuse anyway. Most going on a cruise are checking a bag whether there is a fee or not.

The rules, the contract!

I'm just saying that those who are using phrases like "It's only for an hour a day...what's the big deal" are actually highlight how completely ridiculous it is to ask for anything if it's only an hour a day.

In the long run; the mass market and premium lines have gone for VOLUME over quality. Bigger ships to fill, less money spent on special touches and over the top service. Between the expectations of the crowd and the diminishing of the product (All cruise lines are guilty of this the past 5-10 years) they have met and crossed where neither the client believes the MDR is all that great, nor does the company even market it as anything more than what's included w your fare while touting all it's up-charge venue options.

It's especially obnoxious watching people who think they own the cruise line because they have been on 10, 20, 30,....75+ cruises. All your obnoxiousness does is drive people away from the brand, thinking the ships are filled with snobs and rule inspectors. They largely aren't, but this forum can give a significantly toxic impression that's the case.

Anyways, I got some new golf shorts and gonna go spiff up my sperrys.  Sea ya onboard.  Less than 2 weeks until I next set sail for a warm getaway from work obligations.

Right. Most going in a cruise check a bag. But in the good old days of formal nights we used to each check two. And so did most other cruisers. Not anymore.

Yep.  Checked a large-ish suitcase per adult plus a large garment bag.  We don't even have a garment bag anymore.

We agree with what mfs2k said. We do still see lots of people with checked bags, but the line for self disembark with carry on's seem to get longer and longer. We've spoken with lots of people who have changed their packing habits and only cruise with what can fit into a carry on. We're just off a cruise and casual every night seemed to be the norm.
