HBDave Posted October 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2022 I use YouTube TV at home for my TV Channels, etc. They only allow viewing within the United States. I do have Surfshark VPN, but Youtube TV identifies it as a VPN / Proxy Service and denies access. I would like the option to access Youtube TV on an upcoming Transatlantic Crossing. My question is, does anyone know when using Shipboard WiFi, what location (IP Address) is assigned? Will it appear that I'm in the US? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. HBDave Posted October 15, 2022 Author #2 Share Posted October 15, 2022 That should be Streaming although Steaming might be fun as well.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted October 15, 2022 #3 Share Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) I use either Express VPN or Nord - Both work but if a specific location is used by many it blacklists the IP. I just select a different city. It doesn't have to be your home city it can be any U.S. City. I've never used surfshark but you might try a different city before subscribing to another. While traveling it usually pulls up local content (due to advertising constraints) but you can view your recording. I usually record my home news channels at different times of the day. I specifically enjoy it because I find both FOX and CNBC so polarized in both direction I will not watch either. That leaves BBC which is ok. Guindalf Posted October 15, 2022 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2022 YouTube TV won’t work with a VPN. what’s ‘steaming’ video anyway? Porn?

You will need "high speed " wifi package. There can be issues with bandwidth mid ocean.

Sometimes when I have VPN enabled and go to Google it makes me do a validation because of a recognized VPN. It makes sense that YouTubeTV has similar detection since they are owned by Google. I've been using it with VPN for the past 3 years when traveling outside the U.S. Streaming video would include things like Netflix, Prime Video, YourTube, CNN clips etc...etc. Basically streaming video is any video content that you are not first downloading to your computer. Could it be Porn? Sure as well as it could be cartoons.
HBDave Posted October 15, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted October 15, 2022 I did a little more testing from a PC. I've determined if I clear the browser cache / cookies it seems to work using a different location via the VPN. Not sure what will happen on the ship, but I'll give it a try. JIm, also thank you for providing the instructions on changing the input selection on the TV. I was going to bring a universal remote, but I like your method better. PS: I will have the premium Wifi..

I've found that the ships have the DNS lookup blocked for the VPN websites but you can reach them using a VPN connection.
